At this point, we know the city the will host, we know where the contest will take place, we know the countries that will participate, we know how many will take part, we know who will compete in the semi-finals, but today, we now also know who will host it all. This year’s host broadcaster (SVT) has finally announced who will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Our lovely hosting pair
There is no doubt, that one of this year’s hosts, will by now be a familiar face, especially with Eurovision viewers, but Sweden are still keen on also sharing something new with Europe. The hosts for 2024 are none other than Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman.
Petra Mede
Petra has already made herself VERY familiar with the idea and concept of the Eurovision Song Contest, and it a veteran by now. In 2013, when Malmö last hosted, she was in charge of hosting all 3 shows on her own. When Stockholm then hosted in 2016, she made a comeback together with Måns Zelmerlöw and now, after her male duet, she will host a female duet here in 2024.
If you’re wondering now “does that make her the person that has hosted Eurovision the most times?”. Well, it depends how you look at it. This will be her third time hosting the Eurovision Song Contest, but Petra also hosted special Eurovision Song Contest’s Greatest Hits show, along with Graham Norton, back in 2015. However, when it comes to the actual contest only, then Katie Boyle still holds that title from hosting 4 times.
Commenting on hosting the contest once more in 2024, she had the following to share:
- “Imagine getting the chance to host Eurovision once again! It’s such an incredible honor. After first hosting it alone and then together with the delightful Måns Zelmerlöw by my side, I am now really looking forward to working with Malin. We don’t know each other from before, but we have met a couple of times now, and I’m already completely sold. It’s going to be a joy to work with her!“
Malin Åkerman
Malin is not just your normal Swedish lady, she’s an actor, model, singer and even figure skater. Sweden is bringing out a big gun here. She was born in Sweden, but raised in Canada and only recently gained American citizenship. Since her debut in 1997, she has been part of multiple tv shows and films.
Her most notable role, would be the one in the 2009 superhero movie named Watchmen, which gained her multiple award nominations. She’s also appeared in shows such as How I Met Your Mother, Robot Chicken, Lip Sync Battle and The Masked Singer, just to name a few.
When it comes to the Eurovision Song Contest, she has the following to say:
- “I can’t really describe my feelings about this. I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always liked Eurovision and to be a part of this fantastic show together with Petra is a dream come true. Additionally, Petra is one of the funniest women I’ve ever met.“
With all that said, we can now only wait and see, what the 2024 edition will bring viewers across the world, when the show takes place with this lovely pair on the 7th, 9th and 11th May of 2024.
