The summer is upon us, which usually means the news section for the contest are far in between, with broadcasters planning things out and waiting for song submissions, but not in Israel! Instead, the country decided to do some VERY early homework and preparation for next year’s contest, despite we don’t even know where it will be held yet.

That’s right! Israel and their national broadcaster KAN has kicked off the Eurovision 2023 season and announced their act for next year.

Return to Internal Selection

With this, this will mark Israel’s return to an internal selection for the first time since 2014(if looking past the 2021 contest). Since 2015, Israel has focused it’s energy on selecting singers through The Next Star, which saw great success for the country at the competition, qualifying to every single final between 2015 and 2021. For 2022 however, the country switched to X Factor, where Michael Ben David became victorious by 1 point, but in the end became the first act to not qualify to the final from Israel since 2015.

Israel has in the past tried internally selected artists with mixed results, the last two being Izabo in 2012 and Mei Finegold in 2014, whom both failed to qualify as well, so now it’s time for Noa Kirel to turn that around in 2023!

Noa Kirel was selected by a professional jury panel within KAN, which had a total of 78 potential candidates with great experience within the entertainment industry. The jury consisted of 10 members, who each suggested two candidates and afterwards ranked them all accordingly, with the highest ranked artist to be nominated to represent Israel next year.

About Noa Kirel

Noa Kirel was born in 2001, in the city of Ra’anana, Israel, to Jewish parents. At the age of only 14, she already gained attention and fame, and has released multiple songs since, featured in multiple music festivals, as well as being a TV presenter.

As with a lot of young talented singers nowadays, she started by uploading songs to YouTube, which got her a lot of attention, and by 2016 she had already gained her first award as “singer of the year”. Shortly afterwards, she would be nominated as Israel’s best act in the years between 2017 – 2021, which she won all of them.

From there, she has featured as a judge in Israel’s Got Talent, taking part in films, even performed at the Miss Universe 2021 ceremony, and signed with American record labels. Quite the accomplishment for a mere 21 year old singer, all done in the span of only 7 years.

Below you can have a look at her song “Thought About That” from earlier this year, this is NOT her song for the 2023 contest, that will be revealed at a later point.

It seems like Israel has got their hands on a superstar, what do #YOU think about this choice and how far do #YOU think Israel and Noa Kirel can go in 2023? Time to hear from #YOU as we now have taken a big step into the 2023 season on our social media sites, or on our forum right HERE
