The Danish broadcaster DR has just announced that Copenhagen will be the host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. The B&W Hallerne at the Refshaleøen was chosen as the venue.
The European broadcasting Union and Reference Group have already approved of the broadcaster’s decision.
Pernille Gaardbo, Executive Producer of the 2014 contest said: “”We are looking forward to welcoming Europe in Copenhagen, which is full of cultural diversity, has an excellent infrastructure and a variety of hotels. At the chosen venue we have the opportunity to realise our creative ambitions. The entire area around the B&W Hallerne will be transformed into Eurovision Island, where delegates, press and fans will come together,” .
Herning and Horsens were also in the running but in the end we’ll be returning to the city that hosted the 2001 contest.
Details about ticket sales and hotel bookings will be revealed later this year but at least you can now start planning your trip to beautiful Denmark.
A lot of fans were rooting for the contest to be held in the capital but what are your thoughts? Were you secretly hoping for a Herning show or are you relieved with the decision? Or maybe it doesn’t matter to you at all?

It’s not as much Copenhagen for me but the venue sounds interesting.

I’m relieved, too. While I’m not opposed to smaller cities hosting the event, Herning and Horsens both were just way too remote. Looking forward going back to beautiful Copenhagen.

Happy it is in COPENHAGEN. I did enjoy 2001 in Copenhagen and especially the visit to TIVOLI. So now we can start planning, always a long process with visas, etc
