Kazkhstan has chosen! During the talent show Baqytty Bala last night, it was announced that David Charlin will represent Kazakhstan at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia on 11 December. Charlin competed in this talent show with 21 other competitors from 8 different countries, among which 2019 Spanish JESC representative Melani Garcia. About David Charlin

11 year-old David Charlin is from Almaty, the biggest city in Kazkahstan. He loves to dance the Lezginka (an Caucasion Folk Dance) and performed with the Bakhar Dance Group. However, he’s also a big fan of reading the Harry Potter books and really want to visit Iceland to see some magic! It’s song that David will sing at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest isn’t known yet and will premiere at a later date. In the meanwhile, you can check out his cover of Tom Walker’s song “Something Beautiful.”

About Baqytty Bala

Baqytty Bala (trans: Happy Child) is a musical project sponsored by the Kazakh singer Dimash and held in the city of Aktobe. The three days festival consisted out several round, with a grand final for the public on Saturday 13 August at 19:30 Kazakh time.  The winner was selected by a jury panel made up of Kazakh experts of the cultural panorama Askhat Maemirov, Marat Aitimov, Kanat Aitbaev, Rukhiya Baidukinova and Yernar Nurtazin.

The artists competing in the festival were:

In the end, it wasn’t David Charlin who won Baqytty Bala. The festival ended with a tie between Zhanerke Abdrakhmanova from Kazakhstan and Zarya Uliana from Russia. They won the right to sing together with Dimash at his next few concerts. JESC2019 particpant Melani Garcia came second.

It came as a surprise for the contestant that the representative would be selected during the festival. Khabar agency made this news public the morning before the Grand Final. Several contestant of the festival couldn’t be selected to represent the country at JESC because they exceeded the age restriction of the contest.

Kazkhstan in Junior Eurovision

Kazakhstan debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. Their first participant, Daneliya Tuleshova, was chosen by Kazakh broadcaster Khabar. Daneliya sang Өзіңе сен (Òzińe Sen) and placed 6th. After the contest, she travelled to the United States to take part in America’s Got Talent and reached the final.

Kazakhstan’s second participant was Yerzhan Maxim. He recorded the best result so far for his country when he places second in Gliwice-Silesia in 2019. He received the most amount of points from the national juries. Also Karakat Bashanova reached second place a year later with her song Forever.

Last year, Kazakhstan was represented by Alinur Khamzin & Beknur Zhanibekuly and their song “Ертегі әлемі (Fairy World).”  They finished in 8th place with 121 points.
