Ahead of this week’s episode we were able to sit down with Kansas native Broderick Jones to learn more about him as an artist. With the prep work ahead of the contest we didnt have much time to chat, but we were able to learn more about his ASC experience and overnight success from the track “Pokemon Ü”.
Broderick released his first single “Cuddle” in 2014 and soon became a local success story with his music. After a boom of success he was able to launch his first EP “Me” in 2017. He’s also gone on to be featured on track like “Bad for Asking” by QSTNMKRS, “Moonlightin” by FAREOH, and “Give Me Love” by Kyle Braun.
In 2019 he released another 6 song EP “Stories Untold” and his first full album “Maybe Tomorrow” in 2021. Now in 2022 he’s set to take to the American Song Contest stage and represent the Sunflower state of Kansas!
Hello and welcome to ESC United Broderick! We’re happy to have you on the site today for an interview. Why don’t you introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m Broderick Jones a singer-songwriter from Olathe Kansas!
Wonderful thank you! And of course, you’ll be representing Kansas in the American Song Contest – how does it feel to represent your home state on such a large stage?
No, it feels good I’ve always wanted to be the biggest artist out of Kansas and it gives me the opportunity to shine a light on a state that breeds so many dope musicians and artists! When you say Kansas you think of Kansas City MO which has such a dope culture and vibe that I really wanna bring to the Kansas side and I believe by being on this show I have an opportunity to do that!
I noticed that your career skyrocketed overnight in 2016 when you were featured on it’s different’s trap remix “Pokemon Ü”, which has 34 million plays to date on YouTube alone. How did that song change your musical career?
That song really changed my life because without that I wouldn’t know crvv, which is one of my brothers. a guy who’s believed in me from the jump and allowed me to be me and bring my vision to life. I probably wouldn’t have met Calio or any other producer who used my voice on their beats during that time! Truly blessed to have been a part of that. And also it gave me credibility in a sense to myself. It was proof that it was possible. That anything is possible.
If you had to describe your music to new listeners using only just five words – what words would you pick?
Truthful, catchy, refreshing, relatable
Well Broderick, I want to thank you again for your time today and we wish you the best during the American Song Contest!
