Almost two months after her victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, the buzz for Conchita Wurst still doesn’t seem to come to an end. Countless concerts, events, interviews and TV appearances have kept her busy during the last few weeks. But now a new facet of Conchita’s career has emerged – modelling!
The Eurovision winner has certainly managed to catch the attention of the renowned French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier. Already back in 2012, when Conchita came 2nd in the Austrian national final with That’s What I Am, he invited her to one of his fashion shows. After her triumph this year, they got to meet again at the world’s biggest AIDS charity event, the Life Ball in Vienna – where she also made contact with the star designer Vivienne Westwood.
Today Conchita Wurst appeared as a model at Jean Paul Gaultier’s show within the scope of the Paris Fashion Week. Wearing a black gown with red and golden ornaments, she was welcomed by the audience with roaring applause. Gaultier’s enthusiasm for the Austrian singer was unmistakeable as well: “She establishes a whole new genre,” the famous designer remarked, “Conchita is a man with a beard who both embodies masculine strength and femininity. It’s an incredible combination. It’s courageous and beautiful to live your life the way you want it to be.”
