There’s not much left now, the end of the national final season is almost over, all participating countries have near enough announced their representatives and songs, and with each day at this point, a new song is released. Australia is following suit on this as well, as the national broadcaster (SBS) has finally revealed, who will represent the people, from down under.
Australia 2024 – Internal Selection
Before we get to the main point, a reminder might be needed. Every year, the same question reappears, why is Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest? The country was given the privilege, to take part in the 60th edition of the competition, when it was held in Vienna, Austria, in 2015.
Back then, it was meant as one time special participation, but since, Australia has been given a special invitation, as an associate member, to take part in the competition. Much thanks to the interest of the Australian public over the decades, when it comes to the competition.
This special invitation however, did come with a limit. The deal between SBS and the EBU was only granted until 2023, but renewed for only 2024, allowing Australia to be represented once again this year.
Unfortunately, these agreements do take time, which in return, has forced Australia to opt for an internal selection. In the past, Australia has even managed to host national finals, which has helped the country discover acts for these internal selection, and this year’s case in no exception.
About Electric Fields
The duo Electric Fields, have been selected to represent Australia in 2024. They will sing their song “One Milkali(One Blood)” in the second half of the first semi-final. The song has just been revealed as well, and can be heard below.
The duo will follow in Voyager‘s footsteps, as they also participated in the Australian national final, but ultimately finished in 2nd place. The duo participated in the first national final in 2019, where they narrowly lost to Kate Miller-Heidke. However, the duo has often been rumored since to return.
The duo consists of Zaachariaha Fielding and Michael Ross, who have for almost a decade now, been bringing life to electronic-soul music, with the unique touch of Aboriginal elements included.
They have since also been nominated for multiple awards, especially for The National Live Music, which they won many of the awards they were nominated for. They’ve released and even featured inย numerous singles as well. Both group members, have also participated in the Australian version of X Factor.
The duo has been going slow lately, due to the pandemic years, but are already striking back, and now, the Eurovision Song Contest is their next step.
