We’re excited to bring another interview to YOU the ESCunited readers, this time with Selecția Națională contestant Amia.

Amia is an up-and-coming young artist in Romania, and “Puppet” marks her first debut single. This year will also mark the first time she will participate in the country’s national selection, but she’s been a longtime fan of Eurovision, dating back to when she was a kid. Want to know Amia a bit better ahead of Saturday? Well then read below!

Welcome to ESCUnited.com for an interview Amia! How are you doing today?

Hello and thank you for having me in your interview! I am very happy for what is happening to me right now. Today I am feeling quite tired because I work extremely hard for my show.

To get started we’re going to help our readers to get to know you better, so first off, what is one thing our readers would be surprised to learn about you?

I am a very sensitive girl, but at the same time I am open to the new challenges of life.

Who are some artists who influence or inspire you musically, or that you are constantly listening to on repeat?

There are a lot of artists that influence me and I listen to a lot of music, and if I have to choose a few artists, they would be: Beyonce, H.E.R., Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, etc.

If you were tapped by your record label to record a Eurovision cover album right now, what songs would you pick for the track list and why those songs?

Maneskin-Zitti e buoni: because of its craziness;

Salvador Sobral-Amar Pelos Dois: it is the most sensitive song that I listened to;

Eleni Fouerira-Fuego: a powerful song beacuse of her feminity.

Rosa Linn-Snap: for her simplicity.

If you had the ability to do a one-night only concert anywhere you wanted to, where would you choose to perform at and why?

On the Wembley Stadium. It’s my dream because I’m a Queen fan and I’ve been watching the Wembley concert since I was a kid.

Alright, back to the matter at hand you’ve been selected to participate in Romania’s national selection this year. What were you doing when you learned you’d been selected, and what was your first reaction?

Funny story: I decided to wake up as late as possible that day just so I wouldn’t have to wait for the results.  When I woke up, I made a video call with the team I’m part of and asked them what the results were.  When I saw the results, I burst into tears and started running around the house with happiness.

Have you always been interested in going to Eurovision, or was your decision to participate driven by a “right song and right time” kind of situation?

I have been watching Eurovision ever since I was quite young and resonated very well with the concept of the contest.  I’ve always dreamed of being on the Eurovision stage, and this year was the time to go.  I carefully chose the song and entered it in the preselection.

Your song “Puppet” has some interesting lyrics that seem to tell a very important story. Can you share a bit about the message behind your song, and how you and your team decided this was the message you wanted to share at Selectia Nationala?

“Puppet” is a song with theatrical influences.  It speaks of unchaining, breaking free from the strings of control.  The theme of taking control of life and destiny is told through beautiful and carefully chosen comparisons from the art of puppetry.  This world is very expressive and full of courage, just like the song “Puppet”.

For those who want to connect with you ahead of or after the selection– where can they find you and your music?

I can be found with the name Amia on all streaming platforms where the public can listen to my song and in the near future to the following songs, and the usual social media accounts: @amiaofficial on Instagram, @itsamiaofficial on TikTok and Amia on Facebook.

In closing, do you have a final message you’d like to share with the readers of ESCUnited?

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my interview.  Keep your fingers crossed for me in the National Selection and maybe with your help I’ll get to Liverpool.  Kisses from Amia!

Amia will compete fourth during Selecția Națională 2023, the Romanian national selection show that will select the country’s next representative and entry for Eurovision 2023. The show’s winner will be decided by a 100% televote process in comparison to prior years.
