There is a chance you might have forgotten about it, if you didn’t, well done! If you did, well here is your small reminder to set another cross in your calendar!
American Song Contest 2022
We’ve already reported on this in the past, if you wish to read it in more details, then here you go! To put it all in short, the American version of everyone’s favorite show, will feature original songs from solo artists, duos or even groups, that will represent all 50 states, as well as 5 U.S. territories and the capital of the nation.
All of this will go down on Monday 21 February 2022. The show it expected to last “during a two-hour primetime extravaganza” hosted by the broadcaster NBC.
The team behind the contest consists of Audrey Morrissey, Anders Lenhoff, Christer Björkman, Peter Settman, Ola Melzig, and Gregory Lipstone. As well as Propagate’s Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens.
The contest will of course work slightly differently from the Eurovision Song Contest, since three qualifying rounds will be used, as well as an semi-final and a final. More details about the conest will be released at a later point, which will include host city, hosts, and for people eager to give this a chance, tickets.
America & Eurovision
The Eurovision Song Contest is not only exclusive to citizens of Europe. Countries have in the past been represented by Americans, as well as Europeans living in America. The inclusion of America has however been a bit more strong in the recent past, especially after the 2016 & 2019 contest, which included Justin Timberlake and Madonna as interval acts.
The 2021 contest will probably remain infamous for the inclusion of Flo Rida, who represented San Marino along with Senhit and the song “Adrenalina“.
To give you an even better idea of the inclusion of America in the contest, Katrina Leskanich who was the front singer of the band Katrina and The Waves ended up winning the contest in 1997 for the United Kingdom and she even took part in the Europe: Shine A Light performance, that featured all the 2020 participants. To put it in short, America has surely been a huge part in Eurovision, and there is many more artists to find among the list of Americans that have taken part in the contest in the past.
