Following the conclusion of the first dress rehearsal for semi-final one and during the rehearsals we saw the testing of a new qualification system. This new idea has since been scraped according to a press release from the EBU.

The release states that:

“After trying a new system of presenting the qualifying countries in Dress Rehearsal 1 of the First Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 it was decided by the production team to revert back to the previous reveal sequence used in recent years with artists learning whether they will progress to the Grand Final together with their delegations in the Green Room.

Whilst this change will not now be implemented this year there are other innovations in the show for viewers to look forward to.”

The proposed change pulled all artists on to the stage and showed their reaction to the news of their qualification for spots 1-9. Spot 10 was shown as a 6 act split screen, and was critiqued for showing the artists in a very vulnerable state all alone.
