EMMY has been crowned the winner of Ireland’s Eurosong 2025, and will take the stage in Basel with “Laika Party”!
The electro-pop song was inspired by, and reimagines, the story of Laika, the Soviet dog who was the first animal to orbit the Earth in 1957.
Six acts performed during a special edition of Ireland’s premier late-night talk show, titled ‘The Late Late Eurosong Special’. Host Patrick Kielty took the reins for the second year running, and announced the results, which were decided in equal parts by a national jury, an international jury and a public vote.
The main event of the live TV special took place in the following order:
- Adgy – “Run into the Night”
- Bobbi Arlo – “Powerplay”
- Reylta – “Fire”
- Samantha Mumba – “My Way”
- NIYL – “Growth”
- EMMY – “Laika Party”
Along with the juries, national broadcaster RTÉ brought an expert panel into the studio to discuss each performance. This panel included last year’s Irish representative Bambie Thug, alongside radio presenter Laura Fox, former Eurosong competitor and chef Donal Skehan, and choreographer Arthur Gourounlian.
Ireland’s golden girls of the 90s, Linda Martin, Niamh Kavanagh and Eimear Quinn, performed a rendition of Swedish powerhouse Loreen’s “Tattoo” as the interval act, celebrating 60 years of Ireland in Eurovision. After Loreen’s victory in 2023, both nations share the record for most Eurovision victories at seven apiece.
Finally, it came time for the scores to be revealed. These were awarded as follows:
International Jury | National Jury | Public Vote | Total |
12 – Samantha Mumba 10 – EMMY 8 – Reylta 6 – Bobbi Arlo 4 – NIYL 2 – Adgy | 12 – EMMY 10 – Samantha Mumba 8 – Reylta 6 – Bobbi Arlo 4 – NIYL 2 – Adgy | 12 – EMMY 10 – NIYL 8 – Bobbi Arlo 6 – Adgy 4 – Samantha Mumba 2 – Reylta | EMMY – 34 Samantha Mumba – 26 Bobbi Arlo – 20 NIYL – 18 Reylta – 18 Adgy – 10 |
So it’s EMMY for Ireland at Eurovision 2025! The contest will be held from 13-17 May in Basel, Switzerland.
Last year saw Ireland back in the top 10 for the first time since 2011, with Bambie Thug’s “Doomsday Blue” coming 6th in the 2024 Grand Final with a score of 278 points. Will EMMY help them reach the final again in Basel?
