The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest hadn’t even concluded, when Denmark’s broadcaster (DR) decided to reveal, that the country would not only be participating in 2025, but had even decided where and when the national final would take place. Since then, it has been rather slow, but the time has come, and hopefully a hero can emerge.

Denmark in 2025

As mentioned before, the 2024 contest hadn’t even concluded yet, by the time details for the Danish national final were revealed, and now, there is far more on the line for Denmark. With the conclusion of the 2024 contest, Denmark became at the time, among the other active countries, the country who hasn’t been in the final for the most years.

Denmark unfortunately added to the unwanted streak of non-qualification, while everyone who at the time had a worse record, finally managed to break that streak – That being Ireland, Latvia & Georgia. Therefor, 2025 will hopefully be the year, when Denmark can break the curse.

DR recently finally opened up for the open submission of songs for “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025“, which will be held in Boxen in Herning, on the 1st of March 2025.

The rules do confirm, that once again, 8 songs will be competing. This has been the case every year, since 2021. Otherwise, most of the rules that are the standard for the Danish national final, still applies. This include songs being up to 3 minutes long, songs can be performed in any language, anyone with association/connection to Denmark can apply and songs can’t have been made public prior, just to name a few of the rules.

The Danish broadcaster is reaching out to anyone, as well as professional people in the national music industry. The deadline for submitting songs has been set to October 27th 2024. After the deadline, DR will then proceed to select the 8 acts, which will be publicly revealed a few week prior to the national final. More details are expected to come in the winter months.

As pointed out earlier, Denmark unfortunately didn’t advance to the final in 2024, when SABA couldn’t score enough public points with her song “Sand” in other to advance. Ultimately finishing on 12th place with 36 points, which were 7 points from 10th place.

Do #YOU believe that 2025 will be the year for Denmark and if so, how far do #YOU believe they can get?
