Almost a month ago, the Swedish broadcaster (SVT) announced that they would open the submission period for the upcoming season of “Melodifestivalen“, and now, that period has officially ended. Another way of saying that the new season is slowly creeping even so closer.
Melodifestivalen 2025
More or less, most Eurovision fans are very well familiar with this national selection, but for good measurement, we should probably still mention the minor changes that have been introduced for 2025. In short, 30 will once again compete, with 6 new songs across 5 semi-finals. Top two will advance directly to the final, with only the 3rd place semi-finalists being considered for an extra chance.
With that said, it appears that for 2025, a total of 2794 submissions have been received, which is 170 submissions more than it was for the 2024 edition. This is very much in line with the usual amount that the Swedish broadcaster normally receive, so we should be able to look forward to another interesting edition.
The next task that lies ahead now, if for the team at SVT to pick which songs will make up the 2025 field. The method in which that will be decided, will remain the same as it was for 2024. Here a special jury will pick only 15 songs to advance, while the remaining 15 will be decided by SVT.
Karin Gunnarsson, who is the show producer once again, had the following to say(translated):
-
“Closing the submission is the starting point for the work on the songs that will compete in the Melodifestivalen 2025. Just like last year, there are 30 entries that are competing for the victory, the songbird and to become Sweden’s representative in the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland.”
“Now I look forward to starting the next phase of the selection process and it will be an intense and fun autumn. The goal is of course to clinch another Eurovision victory and make a Melodifestival that delivers both hits and great entertainment and engages the entire Swedish people.”
Which 30 acts that will make part of the 2025 edition, will be revealed by SVT sometime over the Autumn months, songs will however, first be revealed around when the competition starts to take place.
