During the head of delegation meeting, one tradition that remains in place, is the random draw of the host country in the running order. Once again, this has taken place, and with 26 open spots in the grand final, one had to be given out to Sweden today.

Sweden will start the show

Since 2013, the show has been decided by the team behind the contest. The reason for this, is becomes the contest is trying to produce a proper flow in the competition, by having a field as diverse as possible.

Other than that, it’s also in order, to make it easier for the production team, when considering staging for all the acts. Since some countries have simple staging, while others can have some more complicated.

But every year, there is one thing that remains decided randomly, and that’s the position of the host nation in the final. This means, that Sweden would have their starting position completely decided by luck, and we now know where as well.

Marcus & Martinus, who won Melodifestivalen this year, will have the honor of starting the show.

The reason the host nation is the only randomly decided nation in the running order, is due to avoiding any suspicious thinking of home field favoritism. Since SVT and Sweden are the hosts, then therefor Sweden were decided by the random draw.

Andrew Cartmell who was the executive producer of the Liverpool contest last year, was in charge of picking this position randomly.
