Germany decided not to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest last year in Yerevan, but this November they will be back in Nice to compete for the top prize. This is especially exciting because this will be the first year in which all of the “Big Five” countries are participating! The German children’s broadcaster KiKa has laid out its plans for an online selection, in which the public will evaluate five pre-selected songs and choose one to represent the central European nation in the contest.
The five artists and demo versions of their songs will be revealed on September 8, and online voting will open the same day on kika.de. Only residents of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria will be able to submit votes, and their choice will make up 50% of the final result. The other 50% will come from an international jury of music professionals.
Voting will run until September 17 and the winner will be announced the next day. A full studio version of the winning song will premiere on October 13.
Germany has participated in JESC two times before – in 2020 and 2021. They placed last in their debut, but improved in 2021 when Pauline opened the show with “Imagine Us” and placed 17th.
