Need more Eurovision on your TV after the Contest wraps up? Darren Star, showrunner of the show Emily in Paris, has teased that the Contest will feature heavily in the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s popular comedy.
The third season of the romantic dramedy featured the first tease of a Eurovision crossover. The season heavily featured an original song, ‘Mon Soleil,’ which will soon be front-and-centre in a Eurovision plotline! In the season three finale, the character Benoît (Kevin Dias) tells Mindy (Ashley Park) that ‘Mon Soleil’ has been chosen to represent France at Eurovision.
Speaking to Deadline, Star confirmed that Eurovision will be a large focus of the next season. “I don’t know what the details of filming are but I think that our plan is to go to Eurovision next season, we’re all set up for it,” Star says, “I think we’ve got a deserving song. I love that song, ‘Mon Soleil,’ I think it would be definitely a worthy entry.”
When asked whether or not the depiction of Eurovision would be coloured by Netflix’s film adaptation Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020), Star said that Emily in Paris will take it all a bit more seriously. “I really enjoyed that movie, it had more of a comedic take on Eurovision than we would. I think we’d like to look at it maybe in a more straightforward way.”
Darren Star did not clarify whether or not he meant that Emily in Paris would film on-location at the actual Contest — we’ll have to keep our eyes out for that!
