The big day of the 2023 season is slowly approaching us all by now, and all the details are being set in stone for everyday that passes. Romania is one of the seven countries who will be picking their representative this upcoming Saturday, and now they have revealed the hosts of the show.
Selecţia Naţională 2023 – Hosts
TVR (the Romanian broadcaster) has been busy lately, by recording and promoting their 12 selected artists for the show. Each acts has had a live studio performance recorded, which has already been shared online, and even had all 12 finalists featured in a special podcast for each act. Since the act are there to perform, someone will need to lead viewers through the show, and that’s who we’ll get to know now.
Laurențiu Niculescu – Known as Lulu, he is the leader of the band The Colours and has become well known after his debut at Școala Vedetelor. Described as a complex artist, he has had his musical touch and view, over multiple television productions, which has gained great succes.

“I was both in front of and behind the cameras, you can even find me in the music of TVR News. I had the chance to meet and work with exceptional people. Basically with all the big guys in this field. From Titus Munteanu, Valeriu Lazarov, to all the super producers of the moment. And as we are the sum of all the people we’ve met, the books we’ve read and all the teachings that have stayed with us, it’s time to give back to those who were with me at my beginnings. Here at TVR. This community. My life, with all the people who have left their mark on me, it’s similar to the Eurovision community. An ultra cosmopolitan, ultra diverse community, but united by the music that comes with all the moods you never imagined you could experience, with people totally different from you, but sharing the same feelings. And then, you realize that we are all CONNECTED. And that gives me the dopamine boost that made me say: yes! It’s the first time that Eurovision has a music producer as a moderator, used to blowing the wings of those who go on stage. I bring EVERYTHING with me. So here I am!”.
Ilinca Băcilă – Best known for representing Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, with the song “Yodel It!” with Alex Florea. She will be the green room host, where she will interview and speak to the competitors during the show, a role she also held in 2022. Ilinca was also one of the juries in the national final in 2018.

“This year marks 6 years since I took part in this wonderful event, which I love so much! In just a few days, I’ll be back with the finalists of the National Selection, as a presenter, and I’m looking forward to be helping the contestants relax before the competition, as only I know how! I’m really excited for Saturday, I’m sure we’ll have a great time, as always! Let the music play!”
Ilinca will also perform during the show, with her band Gadjo Dilo, where she will also present her first musical composition, named “Mahala“.
Selectia naţională this year will feature 12 acts this year, where the winner will be solely selected by the public. Viewers will be able to vote both via phone or online.
