It might have gone over a few heads, but in case you missed it, another two acts are ready for the final of Eesti Laul 2023, which will take place on February 11th 2023. How that exactly happened, is what we’ll have a quick look at for now.

Wildcard Round – Eesti Laul

According to this year’s Eesti Laul rules, it was mentioned that a total of 12 songs would qualify for the grand final, making viewers believe that the most likely scenario would’ve been with 6 qualifiers from each semi-final, but that’s not quite how it went.

The first semi-final of Eesti Laul was held on January 12th, meanwhile the second semi-final was held on January 14th, each with 5 qualifiers. This meant that a total of 10 songs had qualified to the final by this point and left two open spots in the final.

This would be resolved, by having a wildcard round, where all the eliminated acts competed against each other, after the second semi-final had concluded. Here the two with the most votes, would then go on to be announced as the last qualifiers for the final next month.

As a reminder, these 10 acts were the ones that were eliminated during the semi-finals: (Qualifiers in bold)

  • Carlos Ukareda – “Whiskey Won’t Forget”
  • Ellip – “Pretty Girl”
  • Elysa – “Bad Philosophy”
  • Kaw – “Valik”
  • Linalakk and Bonzo – “Aeg”
  • Merlyn – “Unicorn Vibes”
  • Mia – “Üks Samm Korraga”
  • Neon Letters & Maiko – “Tokimeki”
  • Robin Juhkental – “Kurbuse Matused”
  • Wiiralt – “Salalik”

During the show known as Ringvaade, it was announced that Mia and Elysa had picked up the most votes, and secured themselves a second shot at representing Estonia at this year’s contest.

It was also announced that a total of 7.374 votes had been cast on the 10 possible acts, and that results had been changing in the lead up to the reveal. Once again, 12 acts will now compete in the Eesti Laul 2023 final, which will be held in the Tondiraba Ice Hall in Tallinn.

The running order for the final is expected to be revealed later this week.

12 songs left, one of them will represent Estonia in Liverpool, the question is, who do #YOU think it will be?
