Melodifestivalen is arguably the most popular Pre Selection Format for the Eurovision Song Contest. Every year, fans from all around the world watch this entertaning show to find out who Sweden is going to pick as their representative.

Composers have now the opportunity to submit their songs to SVT which is the broadcaster in charge. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 18th 2013.

The selection method has changed slightly; half of the songs will be selected by SVT however the other half will be decided by a public contest (unfortunately that doesn’t mean the actual public gets to vote). Up to 15 songs will be selected by a jury, one requirement is that least one songwriter/lyricist needs to have  previously published work. But at least one song needs to come from a song writer who has not released any material in the past. Please click HERE  for more information for individuals with prior published material and HERE for newcomers. Applicants can upload sound files accordingly.

Thomas G Son eurovision
Thomas G:Son wrote many MF songs including “Euphoria”. He’s expected to be back in 2014.

SVT will select an additional 15 songs in addition to EKO who already have been confirmed by us  as a participant thanks to their ‘Svensktoppen Nästa 2013’ victory. That brings the total to 32 which will then be split by the producers into four separate Semi Finals.

The full rules for MF can be read HERE.

Should we expect familar faces returning? In the recent past known song writers such as Thomas G:Son and Fredrik Kempe dominated the contest. What are your thoughts? Join the conversation on our popular Eurovision Forum HERE

Interesting that they allow for newcomers who have never publishedmateial although it maybe difficult in a country such as SWEDEN who is dominatd by experienced composers
