SBS, the national broadcaster responsible for selecting Australia’s entry for Eurovision, will certainly be spoiled for choice in 2019. After revealing the exciting news a few weeks ago that the land down under would be hosting its very own national selection for the contest, the channel has confirmed that over 700(!) submissions were received!

In a post on their official website, SBS have detailed how “thrilled” they are that “the range of songs we received showcases the diversity and high-quality songwriting talent across Australia.” The 700+ submissions have already been reviewed by judges responsible for selecting the participants, with the next step of the process seeing the successful submissions linked to the artists who will bring them to life on stage.

The press release also teases an imminent participant announcement, with SBS saying they will “start making announcements very soon about the high-calibre performers who will take the stage” in the selection.

For those lucky enough to be able to visit Australia for the competition, tickets are now available HERE, with options of the jury preview show on Friday 8th February 2019, the matinee show on the Saturday and the live show later that evening (or for real die-hard fans, a package to see all three shows). Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst, Australia’s contest commentary team, will present the selection.

Australia will be hoping to improve on their showing in Lisbon, where Jessica Mauboy finished 20th with “We Got Love”, the first time the Oceanic nation finished outside the top ten since their debut in Vienna in 2015.
