It has been officially announced that Ira Losco will perform “Walk On Water” in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm in May!
The rules of the Maltese national Final, Malta Eurovision Song Contest, stated that the winner would go to Eurovision, although the song which won may not. The TV channel decided that it would be in their best interest to rethink their song in order to give Malta the best chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time!
Malta used this format for selecting Destiny Chukunyere and her song “Not My Soul” for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest back in November, which brought the JESC trophy back to Malta! Destiny was selected in a national final, then the song was selected later. The same thing that has happened with Ira and her song for ESC 2016.
There were 10 songs in the running to represent Malta, Chameleon (two new versions) and 9 others. 13 European juries were involved in listening to the songs and “Walk On Water was the overwhelming favourite to represent Malta in Stockholm”.
Ira filmed the video for the song last week and it will be released on Thursday in a TV show on TVM at 20:00CET.
