Songs have been shortlisted for the United Kingdom

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months, you will know that the BBC have decided to hold an open selection to find this year’s Eurovision Song Contest entry. It has now been announced that the songs have now been shortlisted.

In confirmation from the BBC, we have been informed that the songs have now been listened to by OGAE UK and their feedback returned to the BBC. The BBC has stated: “All the entries were viewed and shortlisted by the OGAE UK; the BBC has not been directly involved in this process this time around”, and there seems to be a good quality of songs submitted “However the OGAE passed on their comments to us and were very impressed with the amount of effort, thought and care that went into this year’s entries”.

Even at this late stage the BBC have not revealed exactly how the song will be selected, so we are still awaiting this confirmation. Will the BBC host a one show national final? Will it run for a number of weeks? Will they return to presenting the songs on the Lottery show? Will it be an online selection? As soon as the information is made public we will bring you it!

The United Kingdom received their second lowest score in Eurovision history in Vienna, achieving only 5 points, when Electro Velvet represented the UK with “Still in Love”. The BBC have realised they need to reevaluate their selection process, and therefore have enlisted the help of OGAE UK.

I’ve had this made clear by an artist applying outside the OGAE system.

OGAE UK are not assisting in the selection of ALL the songs, only those from the open entry section.
