Ireland’s national final has come under fire once again from Irish musician Billy McGuinness for featuring an entry composed entirely of Swedish artists and writers.
The Aslan singer – who made headlines last year when erupting into an argument with Linda Martin during Eurosong, with the Eurovision winner branding him an ‘odious little man’ – has said “Surely a Swedish singer singing a Swedish song with Swedish backing singers should be competing to be Sweden’s Eurovision entry, not Ireland’s?”
“I think given the talent in the Irish music industry among songwriters, singers, it’s outrageous that RTÉ has seen fit to go outside Ireland to find someone who can sing Ireland’s Eurovision entry this year” he has been quoted as saying to the Irish Sun.
Aftonbladet reports that he was set to make amends with Linda Martin in a duet at the national final, but he has now pulled out in protest.
Ireland’s national selection takes place this Friday on The Late Late Show.
