The Icelandic national selection Söngvakeppnin has just come to an end – and we have a winner! María Ólafsdóttir is going to Vienna and will represent Iceland with the song Unbroken.

In the first round the seven finalists presented their entries. Unlike in the semi finals, not all songs were performed in Icelandic – the competing artists were asked to sing in the language they’re also planning to perform in at Eurovision (which means most artists opted for English this time). A jury panel (50%) and the televoters (50%) decided the top 2 of the line-up. The two super finalists would compete against each other in the second round.

Here are the two super finalists (bolded).

1. Cadem – “Fly”
2. Sunday – “Feathers”
3. Björn og félagar – “Piltur og stúlka”
4. María Ólafsdóttir – “Unbroken”
5. Elín Sif Halldórsdóttir – “Dance Slow”
6. Friðrik Dór – “Once Again”
7. Haukur Heiðar Hauksson – “Milljón augnablik”

The two super finalists performed their song once again. The winner of the duel was determined by televoting only.

Friðrik Dór – “Once Again”
María Ólafsdóttir – “Unbroken”

In an exciting battle the televoters have eventually made their choice: María Ólafsdóttir has won the ticket to Vienna and will perform her song Unbroken in the 2nd semi final on 21 May!
