The rules of the prestigious San Remo festival in 2015 have been published and it seems that, unlike in 2014, Italian broadcaster RAI will be using the contest once again to select the Big 5 country’s representative. The recently published rules state;
The winning artist of the “CAMPIONI” section will have the right to participate representing Italy at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. In case they do not intend to make use of this possibility, the organizers of this event will reserve the right to choose the participants according to their own criteria.
As this suggests, the winner of the established artists category at San Remo will automatically be given the right to join the fun in Vienna, but they may refuse this offer and RAI may be left to choose another artist based on their own criteria.
Italy returned to the contest in 2011 after a 13-year absence and has been relatively successful since, with 2014 marking the first time in Italy’s new era that they did not finish Top 10. Will we be seeing a return to form from Italy in 2015 now that San Remo is back in the mix?
