United Kingdom: Brighton to host selection on February 7th

The United Kingdom’s inconsistent displays in Eurovision can be put down to many things; poor staging, poor songs, live vocals, or simply a lack of effort in putting forward a good entry for the contest. With the latest news from the BBC, the British broadcaster, the latter is straying further from the truth!

The BBC has today confirmed that the Brighton Dome, host venue of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 which famously saw ABBA claim the title, will once again play host to a Eurovision event, as the UK decides its song and entrant for Lisbon. Mel Giedroyc will preside over proceedings for the third year in a row, although she will be joined by the now-UK based Måns Zelmerlöw as a co-host in 2018!

Eurovision: You Decide 2018 will take place in Brighton on Wednesday, February 7th at 20:30 CET, moving away from its traditional Friday night spot, and is expected to be broadcast once again on BBC Two. Six acts will perform in front of the live audience and viewers at home to win the British ticket to final in Lisbon next May.

Tickets for the national final are now available from the Brighton Dome website at £30 (33 euros) HERE. It has not yet been confirmed when the acts will be revealed, although they have traditionally been revealed on BBC Radio 2 in the week leading up to the selection, since its return in 2016.

Lucie Jones brought the best result since 2011 for the United Kingdom in Kyiv, with the atmospheric “Never Give Up on You” receiving 111 points from the juries and televote.
