Poland: Martin “When I close my eyes and I feel my heart beating so fast like that night”

Tonight, Poland will also choose it’s representative for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Kyiv. Today, Martin, whom represented Poland in Eurovision Song Contest in 2010, has found time to talk with us.

Hello Martin

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?

Hey, thank you very much for inviting me to this interview. I am great, absolutely great. You want to know who Martin Fitch is? Well…

I would call myself an adventurous citizen of the world J I was born in a small town Inowroclaw in Poland where I grew up surrounded by loving family who supported me a lot. When I was 8 y.o., Edyta Gorniak was representing Poland in Eurovision coming 2nd. It was 1994. From that moment I had a dream to become somebody like her. I wanted to be on Eurovision stage. I was always dreaming big and never gave up. I graduated drama school, played roles in musicals such as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, Marius in Les Miserables. But my dream and aim was Eurovision. I took part in 2010 and won national finals and was selected to represent my country. Such an amazing feeling. 4 years ago I moved to London, where I am recording my first solo album. I was traveling around the world, every journey made me a better person. I had a feeling that I am growing up. Decided to come back for Eurovision, but this time as a new, improved myself.

Your song that you will be presenting for the national final in Poland is “Fight for Us ” . What can you tell us about the song? What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the national final in Poland and Eurovision?

I wrote “Fight for us” mostly inspired by my journeys. I visited last year most countries in Europe, USA, Dominican Rep. and Canada, always fascinated by culture, food, music. It’s very inspiring to wake up every day in a different part of the world. Most of all I met so many amazing people who wanted to share their stories with me and I realised we all have to fight not to become ignorant and not to pretend we don’t see what’s going on around. We have to fight for our dreams, for love, we have to fight not to be forgotten, to be heard. This song is a very passionate story of my life, of my choices. I have a feeling that this is actually my first song. I feel that Martin Fitch is so honest with the audience like never before. I share my intimisy with people listening to that song. That’s why I wanted to bring it to Eurovision as I think everybody can find something in that song which could be also their story.

You already participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010. How was your experience? What would you different with your performance?

2010 was a great year. 24 year old guy from a small town standing on the biggest stage in the world?! Are you serious?! It was me! hihi I did it. I would change absolutely everything in my performance now, but I would never delete it from my memories. When I close my eyes and I feel my heart bitting so fast like that night, I can hear this much of a support from people all over the world, I even smell the smoke on that stage. Unforgettable. But it was 7 years ago and now I am a better myself 😉

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I absolutely love ESC! I would even fight for the title of most passionate participant ever 😉 hi hi Never missed a show since 1994! For Poles of course Edyta Gorniak is our nr 1 and always will be, but I also loved Anna Maria Jopek or Justyna Steczkowska. My favourite non polish entry is Australia last year with Dani IM.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest, where would you dream to do a performance?

Royal Albert Hall and Wembley in London is absolutely a dream of every singer in the world.

What ís the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

“Never give up, believe in yourself.”, “Haters gonna hate, you do your job!”, “If you love your job, you’ll never work even one day”.

What’s your biggest fear?

Spiders! I hate spiders. I never could kill them as I respect all animals, but I am really afraid of them. In Australia I saw hundreds massive spiders on trees where I stopped for a quick stop and I never stopped again

If your life was a Song title which one would be?

“I surrender” – Celine Dion

Where would we find you on a typical Sunday Afternoon?

On a nice Sunday walk with my cute doggies – Nacho and Miss Chili <3 or cooking…
