Malta: Claudia Faniello “It talks about our inner emotions”

In 2 days time PBS will air  the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. The preparations are in full swing and from tomorrow the participants will start rehearsing at the MFCC. Today, Claudia has spoken to us about her entry Breathlessly.

Hello Claudia

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?

I started singing at the tender age of 10, I was brought up in a house were music was always a huge part of our daily lives. Moreover, both me & Fab are named after singers so basically it’s in the genes. We take after our mother Anna, she’s the singer out of both parents. Unfortunately having started a family at a young age she didnt have the opportunity to nourish her talent. However, she made sure we did. And here we are thanks to her support and dedication towards our musical careers.

I have had many musical influenses along the years some of which are Enya , savage garden, HIM & Madonna. In fact Madonna is still an idol for me, mostly for the woman she is and for what she represents.

Apart from music my 2nd passion is travelling, I’m an adventure junkie️ & Ihave been around but my ultimate dream is to travel the world & meet new people, cultures etc.

Your song that you will be presenting for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is “Breathlessly”. What can you tell us about the song?

“Breathlessly” is an emotional power ballad, with very meaningful lyrics and a beautiful melody and music arrangement. It is not your standard bling bling song, it is a song that comes direct from the heart. I love its sophistication, too.

The story is very simple, yet very real. It talks about our inner emotions, and how we battle through them at various stages in our releationship with our loved one. It talks about those very special unspoken words, that are so powerful and meaningful. It talks about a simple, yet sometimes very complicated journey we live inside

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?

I guess that “emotion” was the main inspiration. After my 1st runner up placing with PURE in 2012, the songwriters wanted to create for me, and the audience, another emotional journey.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I think the Eurovision keeps evolving with new ideas, new presentations, and different songs. However, I do love the fact that people get a big say in voting, because I believe they are the ones who really know what touches them in a special way. Yes, sure I watch it every year! And my favourite song is “Euphoria” – although I did like Ukraine this year too.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

Festivals around Europe where different genres of music unite thousands of people.

Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will have a positive impact on your career?

Yes, why not. I believe that an artist should never look back or be ashamed of anything she or he does. So, if one decides to take part in Eurovision, it will clearly benefit them as a personal goal, but I believe it will also expose them to a bigger and more varied audience.

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?

I might come across as very confident & sure of myself however I am quite shy as a person.

Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?

Depends on which season, if its winter, I’m cuddled up with my dog Leila at home watching movies … if it spring, ull find me & my friends doing picnics in the countryside whilst in summer I’m on a deckchair soaking up the sun.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

Take nothing & no one for granted. cherish every moment, good or bad.

If your life was a song title, what would it be?

Life is a rollercoaster

What is a typical day like for you?

I try to juggle between working in a school, personal studies, coffee breaks, taking out my dog, exercise & relaxing hopefully late in the eve.
