Jørgen Ingmann, one half of the duo who achieved Denmark’s first Eurovision victory, has died aged 89.

The singer represented his country alongside wife Grethe with the song “Dansevise” in 1963 and achieved victory over Switzerland with 42 points. Following the contest he enjoyed a music career until retiring from the scene in the 1980s and living a quiet life outside of the limelight.

This was Denmark’s only victory for 37 years, until the Nordic nation achieved two more triumphs; with the Olsen Brothers in 2000 and with Emmelie de Forest in 2013.
