The powerhouse country known as Ukraine, is gearing up and getting ready for another year of hopefully a positive result. So far, Ukraine has in the 2020’s only achieved top 10 results, which includes one victory, so the question is, can they continue with this into 2025? That’s why the Ukrainian broadcaster (Suspline) is now calling for songs, that can keep the streak going.

Ukraine in 2025

For 2025, Ukraine will once again go with the national selection, which goes under the name “Vidbir“. The selection process will remain largely the same in 2025, as it was for 2024, by being divided into a few stages.

The call for songs is already open, and it will last until 10th of November 2024. Hereafter, a longlist of the submitted songs will be made, which will include 20 entries. These entries that make it this far, will then take part in an audience round, where up to 9 of them will be selected to take part in the national final, which is set to take place in February 2025.

The up to 9 who qualify to the national final will be revealed no later than 20th of December 2024. When that is done, all the remaining longlisted entries will enter a second round, for a chance to get voted by the public, into the national selection. The public will then have the chance to pick one additional entry, which can take part in the national final, and with the full list of finalists to be revealed no later than 17th of January 2025.

This means that up to 10 songs will take part in the Ukrainian national final. Among some of the rules that include, are some of the usual ones, but also a few interesting ones. Just to name a few of the rules below, such as:

  • Songs can not be any longer than 3 minutes
  • Artist(s) must be 16 year old
  • Only a maximum of 6 composers for each submitted entry
  • Unlimited amount of submissions can be sent by any participant
  • Applicants can not take part in other national finals in Europe
  • Demo versions are allowed to be submitted

Fore 2025, the Ukrainian broadcaster did also announce that Tina Karol, who has been a judge in the past, as well being best known for representing Ukraine in 2006, was appointed as the music producer for this upcoming national final. Even encouraging interested artist to apply in mass and sharing the following regarding the national final:

  • It is important that one artist can submit several songs: two, three or even four. They can be submitted even in demo versions. Experiment! You can also submit one song in different versions. But there are important selection criteria: they must be original author’s songs. Tracks created on the basis of other compositions are not accepted. Folk songs are not accepted. Songs that have already been published, even if it’s only 10 seconds long, are not accepted. And remember that the timing of the song should be 3 minutes.

In 2024, Jerry Heil and alyona alyona joined forces to bring their song “Teresa & Maria” to European viewers. The song was happily appreciated, as the televote managed to push Ukraine into 3rd place after their score was combined with the juries.
