It has barely been two weeks since RTVE (This year’s Junior Eurovision host broadcaster), revealed the list of the participating countries. On that list, we got the wonderful news of seeing both Cyprus and San Marino returning to the competition, after being absent for quite a while. Cyprus revealed not to long ago, who they had picked for the contest, and now, San Marino has followed along and also decided who will represent them, on their return.

San Marino’s return to Junior Eurovision

To begin with, let’s quick recap the history of San Marino, in the junior contest. The country first took part in 2013, and despite the participation of the small republic was very welcome, it was short lived. The country only competed in the contest between 2013 and 2015, and in all 3 attempts, the results could easily be considered on the poorer end.

San Marino did finish 10th in 2013, which remains the country’s only top 10 placement in the competition, but it doesn’t appear as impressive, when revealed that there were only 12 participating countries that year. Generally, the country has barely avoided last place in all their 3 first attempts, so ultimately, this led the country to withdraw after the 2015 contest.

Now, here almost a decade later, San Marino and their broadcaster(SMRTV) has taken the decision to give it another shot, and this honor has fallen upon the group known as Idols SM.

The group consist of 4 members who are Asia Ceccoli, Giulia Rinaldi, Giorgia De Scisolo and Vera Stefania Olkhovskaya, who all are in the 11 and 12 year old age group. The group was presented to a live audience, during the “Sogna ragazzo sogna” event, where the group performed two songs to the audience.

One was titled “Poesia” – poetry(in English) – while the other was titled “Come Noi” – like us(in English). Both songs were composed by MiOdio, who are known in the Eurovision circle, for being the first ones ever to represent San Marino on their debut, all the way back in 2008. A jury that were present at the event, decided that “Come Noi” would be the song to be performed at the junior contest in Madrid.

The song has not officially been released yet and so it is currently not available in it’s full length, but a small preview can be heard in the clip below:
