The search for the successor of Mimicat has started in Portugal!
The Portuguese broadcaster RTP has revealed the composers and songwriters that are responsible for the songs competing in Festival da Canção 2024. One of their songs will be representing Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.
20 songs will take part in the competition, which will be held across three shows on February and March.
Fourteen of the 20 songwriters chosen for next year’s competition were specially invited by the Portuguese broadcaster, with the remaining six chosen from an open casting call which yielded 809 submissions earlier in the year.
The composers for Festival da Canção 2024 are:
- Bispo
- Buba Espinho
- Cristina Clara
- FILIPA (from open call)
- Huca
- Iolanda
- João Borsch
- João Couto (from open call)
- LEFT. (from open call)
- Leo Middea
- Maria João
- MELA (from open call)
- Mila Dores
- Nena
- NOBLE
- No Maka
- Perpétua
- Rita Onofre (from open call)
- Rita Rocha (from open call)
- Silk Nobre
It is not currently known if these songwriters will be performing their own songs for the competition or working alongside another artist. Portugal’s RTP will likely release the official song titles and the performing artists in the coming weeks.
Mimicat represented Portugal this year with their song “Ai Coração”. The song finished 23rd in the Grand Final with a total of 59 points.
