NRK aired a special show to present all participants to the wider audience. Presenters for this year, Fredrik Solvang and Mario Ravn hosted the show.

Looking at the list, Eurovision fans will recognize Margeret Berger, who finished 4th in 2013 with the song “I Feed You My Love”, and KEiiNO who finished 6th in 2019 with the song “Spirit in the Sky”.

Among many debuts, several artists returned to MGP this year. Farida, Vidar Villa, and Erika Norwich got another chance to take the crown and fly the Norwegian flag in Malmö.

Melodi Grand Prix 2024 Format

The semifinals of MGP will take place at the NRK studios in Marienlyst, Oslo on January 13th, January 20th, and January 27th respectively. Six artists will compete in each semifinal and three will qualify for the Grand Final scheduled on February 3rd at Trondheim Spektrum.

The semifinal results will be decided 100% by the televote while the juries will be introduced in the Grand Final. The winner will be determined by a 60/40 combination of the votes from the public and international expert jury, giving more weight to the televote.

The audiotune rule stayed the same as last year. Anyone can use it for their performance on MGP, but won’t be able to at Eurovision.

Former MGP winner Alessandra Mele represented Norway at Eurovision 2023 with the song “Queen of Kings”. She ended up in 5th place with a total of 268 points.
