The national broadcaster of Malta (PBS) has shared the key details regarding the Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC) 2025, which will determine the country’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

The submission window for entries will be open from November 18 to November 29, 2024. Several rules have been established for participants:

  • Eligibility: Artists must hold Maltese citizenship. For group acts, the lead vocalist must be a Maltese citizen.
  • Exclusion: Sarah Bonnici, the winner of MESC 2024, is not allowed to compete in MESC 2025 as a main performer.
  • Songwriters and composers: They may be of any nationality, providing a broader pool of talent.
  • Multiple entries: Artists are allowed to submit more than one song for consideration.
  • Song release restrictions: Submitted songs must not have been publicly performed or released before November 30, 2024.

After the submission period ends, a jury panel will review all the entries and select 24 songs to compete in the semi-finals. These semi-finals are set for February 4 and 6, 2025. In each semi-final, a combination of jury and public votes will determine eight songs to move on to the grand final.

The final, scheduled for February 8, 2025, will feature 16 songs. The Maltese entry for Eurovision 2025 will be selected through a combination of jury and public votes. All three stages of the competition—the two semi-finals and the final—will be broadcast live, with an audience present.

The Malta Eurovision Song Contest represents a platform that allows artists the chance to shine on a national stage and possibly catapult to international fame through Eurovision. The contest has a following in Malta, with a tradition of producing diverse musical acts. This year’s final promises to be no different, with a wide array of musical talent expected to compete for the chance to represent Malta on one of Europe’s biggest stages.
