After the success of breaking a long non-qualification streak, Latvijas TelevÄ«zija (LTV) announced the familiar format that will be used to choose Latvia’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025. Supernova will be used again to select the entry for the 2025 contest in Switzerland.

Rules and regulations are similar to last year’s contest with a few updates. After discussing eligibility requirements (song must not have been released before 1 September, artist must be 16 years of age or older, etc.), the second section details how the submissions will be evaluated. A jury determined by LTV will evaluate the submissions and part of their criteria includes song structure, potential to compete in the international pop music market, vocals, and experience.

Prospective Latvian artists will be able to submit their applications on 20 August until 21 October. A list of the competing artists in Supernova is expected to be released in November. In addition, the procedure for determining the winner of Supernova will also be released in January 2024 and the winner will be decided in February 2024.

The most recent Latvian entry to the Eurovision Song Contest was “Hollow” by the artist Dons. Latvia competed in the second semi-final and qualified for the Grand Final, having finished in 7th place with 72 points. Dons then finished in 16th place in the Grand Final with 64 points. Last year was the first time Latvia had qualified for the Grand Final since 2016.
