Croatia has taken another step in redesigning its national selection. After introducing the semi-final format, they also decided to change the voting system for this year. Just as a reminder, the last time Dora had semi-finals was back in 2011.
What we already know
A total of 24 artists will compete in the semi-finals with their songs being already released. Out of 12 songs in each semi-final, 8 will advance to the next stage of the selection.
In the past few years, we had only a single show that determined who would represent Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest. In that format, 50% of the points were given by the televote, while the other 50% were shared among 10 jury panels located all over Croatia, covering all its regions.
Changes in 2024
Jutarnji List reports that in the two semi-finals, qualifiers will be determined solely by the televote. Juries will be introduced in the Final where they will cast 50% of the total points, while televote will cast the remaining 50%. In the event of a tie, the winning song will be the one that received the most votes from the audience.
Moreover, Croatia decided to follow the patterns of many countries who decided to introduce the international jury which will be a major change compared to the past few years. The jury votes will instead come from four Croatian juries in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Osijek, as well as four international juries said to come from Iceland, Ukraine, Italy, and Germany.
We also got the names of the hosts. Duško Ćurlić – an official Croatian commentator of Eurovision, Maja Ciglenečki, and Anja Cerar will be our hosts during the semi-finals and the final. Just a reminder, semi-final shows are scheduled on February 22nd and February 23rd, while the big finale is scheduled on February 25th when we will find out who is Let 3’s successor. Will it be Let 3 again, or some other big favorites it is yet to be seen.
