A few days before the official Eurovision week, we sat down with 5MIINUST x Puuluup for a lively conversation about their music and upcoming album.
The group delved into their creative process, revealing how their album was recorded in various countryside locations, allowing nature to naturally influence their themes and lyrics. They shared insights into their fascination with Central Asian music and instruments like the “Morin khuur” (horse-head fiddle), drawing parallels with their use of the “hiiu kannel” (Talharpa).
Discussing collaborations, they emphasized the seamless synergy with rap artist Nublu, despite diverse musical backgrounds. Themes of urban versus rural life emerged, highlighting the contrast between idealized imagery and underlying social and political issues.
The band opted to leave room for audience interpretation of their Eurovision entry, emphasizing the multifaceted nature of their music.

The partnership between 5MIINUST x Puuluup represents a captivating fusion of styles. While 5MIINUST has dominated Estonia’s pop music scene for the past six years, Puuluup is known internationally for their award-winning zombie-folk sound.
Despite the apparent contrast in genres, the extremes of both acts’ music meld effortlessly. 5MIINUST brings their signature firepower, characterized by rich basslines, to the collaboration.
Puuluup, on the other hand, introduces the unique element of wooden lyra melodies, offering a fresh and distinctive soundscape to the world.
Estonia will perform in Semi-Final 2 on Thursday, May 9th.
