Enya Cox Dempsey is headed to the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest as the Irish representative following her victory at Junior Eurovision Éire 2024.
14-year-old Dempsey, from Castlecomer, will perform the song “Le chéile,” (“Together”). The song was written by Nicky Brennan and Ian James White.
Ireland’s participation in JESC has been organized by the Irish language broadcaster TG4 since the country’s debut in 2015. Junior Eurovision Éire, Ireland’s national selection for JESC since its debut, is conducted in Irish, and all of Ireland’s entries to date have been performed in the Irish language. Ireland’s best JESC result came in 2022, when the song “Solas,” performed by Sophie Lennon placed fourth with 150 points.
The final of Junior Eurovision Éire 2024 took place on October 13, 2024. Dempsey beat out finalists Lottie O’Driscoll Murray and Isla McManus to take the win, based on the judges’ selection. In the second round, the three performed Irish language covers of past Eurovision winners: “Euphoria” by Loreen (Murray), “Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids” by Paul Harrigan and Charlie McGettigan (McManus) and Duncan Laurence’s “Arcade” (Dempsey). Eurovision alum Linda Martin, who won in 1992 representing Ireland with “Why Me?” served as a guest judge.
JESC 2024 will take place on November 16, 2024 at the Caja Mágica in Madrid.
