The Swiss are having a lot to deal with lately, not only preparing for next year’s show, but also to find the best suitable artist, to follow in Nemo‘s footsteps. This will be done once again internally, cause why fix it, if it’s working just fine. Let’s get into the details.
Switzerland in 2025
As mentioned just before, Switzerland will opt for an internal selection once again, when the nation will host the contest in 2025. Switzerland’s broadcaster (SRG SSR) has opted for this solution every year since 2019, which has garnered more than promising results. The country used to select internally at one point, but decided to return for a national final format between 2011 and 2018, which had a promising start, but halted the Swiss eventually, until they finally cracked the code in 2019.
Since 2019 alone, Switzerland has finished in top 5 on three different occasions, being in 2019, 2021 and with a victory in 2024. Switzerland now sits on the position of being pre-qualified for the final as well, and in 2025 it will be in their 6th final in a row, so no doubt that Switzerland are more than happy to go with a working system.
The question now, is who will follow up on the impressive recent results. Submissions will open on August 8th and will last until August 22nd 22:00(10 PM) Swiss time and CET. Since this is prior to September 1st, none of the submitted entries are allowed to be made available to the public prior, during or after the submission period.
Hereafter, multiple stages will take place involving a Swiss audience jury, as well as an international jury, who will decide on who will defend the Swiss flag on home soil. The entry will first be revealed in early 2025. Support for the 2025 act will be carried out as usual, among all the regional Swiss broadcasters.
Once again, it’s all thanks to Nemo‘s victory in Malmö, that the 2025 contest will now take place in Switzerland. It is still unknown where the contest will be held in the country, but four bids have been proposed as potential host cities, soon we will learn the 2025 destination. Until then, you can rewatch “The Code” as Switzerland’s most recent entry, which secured them the victory after achieving a combined score of 591 points from the public vote and the jury.
