The case for declaring Israel's televote result invalid

Well, I can't say it wasn't there if I haven't seen it of course. It's like with UFO's. But ultimately, it probably didn't have much impact, as there were tendencies that went the other way. Including jury members who gave Israel very few votes, and countries whose juries were massively...

United Kingdom UNITED KINGDOM 2024 - Olly Alexander - Dizzy

He is an example of an artist who can do it relatively risk free: He has a very strong voice. And you can't take that away from him even if people don't vote massively in his favour. Same with Hera Björk. But if you are a, say, Zara Larsson kind of artist, then many will look at what you did...

The case for declaring Israel's televote result invalid

In my country Israel got loads of votes from the public. I never once saw any advertising or other promotion from Israel, even though my cookies should indicate that I'm interested in Eurovision.

United Kingdom UNITED KINGDOM 2024 - Olly Alexander - Dizzy

The problem is that the relation between being a succesful pop artist and getting success at Eurovision has weakened. The average successful pop song is doing badly at Eurovision because the public and the juries are looking for something extraordinary. Midtempo songs are almost per se not...

The case for declaring Israel's televote result invalid

I would have said exactly that about France, but the world has no taste.

The case for declaring Israel's televote result invalid

I read most of what you wrote - not all of it, since I also need to eat and sleep. But you might want to consider why Israel were high in the odds from the beginning. That must have been because the bookmakers believed that Israel would get a lot of sympathy votes. Surely the bookmakers weren't...

    Slovenia SLOVENIA 2024 - Raiven - Veronika

Well, the song did get some hype in the first weeks. But to me, it's a song from the same category of songs that Albania often sends. A good female singer, dramatic staging, not particularly melodic.

I noticed that the Rest of the World only gave points to one of the slow songs, France (2 points). I like that. There were no good slow entries this year. Which is sad because I normally like the ballads a lot. Like in 2020 when both songs in my top 2 were ballads - Norway and Italy.

    How did you vote?

Voted for Norway and the Czech Republic in the semi. Voted for Norway, Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany and Italy in the final.

    Slovenia SLOVENIA 2024 - Raiven - Veronika

Disjointed. Neither pop nor a ballad. Divisive charisma from the singer. Slovenia was extremely lucky to make it through to the grand final. It got a lot of help from neighbouring Serbia and Croatia.

    Turkey TÜRKIYE 2025

This is not exactly a sign that Türkiye will be back in Eurovision in the near future ... https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/points-erdogan-turkeys-leader-claims-eurovision-song-contest-110412008

    Czech Republic CZECHIA 2025

Czechia has brought some of my favourite Eurovision songs in recent years. And 2023 wasn't among them. Rather, I liked the songs from 2022 and 2024 a lot. I could be a bit worried that they'll go more for songs like My Sister's Crown because this was a bigger success than the other two.

United Kingdom UNITED KINGDOM 2024 - Olly Alexander - Dizzy

Yes, it was like it tried to compete with Ireland about being most goth ... To me, the staging was quite Benidorm-ish, and I think Benidorm has become way too much a sort of epi-center for flamboyance (to use a relatively neutral word).

As I interprete it, they admit there was some sort of ban of the EU flag, but it only occured due to the extreme circumstances.

The recipe for success at Eurovision?

Just a few thoughts about what seems to work and not work, in the light of this year’s results: - If your staging expresses something scary, vulgar or similar, you need to be the one to perform it most explicitly. Otherwise, people will pick something more extreme. Example: UK (2024), Germany...

    Norway NORWAY 2024 - Gåte - Ulveham

Norway's jury was very kind to the Israeli song. https://www.escunited.com/esc-2024-a-complete-list-of-this-years-jury/ I'm sorry that voting is a matter of which country people sympathize with. Personally I would never vote that way - certainly not deliberately. I support Ukraine in general...

It was pro Palestine activists who had put glue on the seat. She should have left it after ten seconds.

I don't know what to think of censorship - EBU has used it "always" -, but if there are rules, and those rules are not respected, it must have consequences. Or?
